The campus also is home to a 10,000
square-foot, state-of-the-art rehabilitation center
called P.O.W.E.R. (Promotion of Wellness, Exercise and Rehab), which is
dedicated entirely to restoring and maintaining health.
P.O.W.E.R. offers the most advanced tools and equipment along with
certified clinical professionals in various fields
of therapy, including cardiac, wound, sports, speech, vestibular (balance)
and occupational. Among P.O.W.E.R.’s equipment
is a unique device that trains an athlete by
graphically demonstrating a golf swing or basketball free throw. The
device helps athletes execute their sport to the maximum. Therapy at
P.O.W.E.R. also can reduce the odds for a second heart attack by
strengthening heart muscles and encouraging the
regeneration of blood vessels.
The general hospital on the Baptist Medical
Center campus is supported with technologically
sophisticated equipment that includes a cardiac intensive care unit. There
also is a medical office building that was totally leased by completion,
and a second building is planned for the Harris
Cancer Center and other medical services.
A senior living center is being built adjacent
to the hospital. Morningside will offer 146
suites that will include 80 independent-living units, 48 assisted-living
suites and 18 memory-support suites for
Alzheimer’s patients. Morningside is the result of a partnership
between Georgia Baptist Health Care System and Nashville’s LifeTrust
America, Inc.
As part of the senior-oriented continuum of
care being developed by Georgia Baptist Health Care System, Baptist
Medical Center offers home care, family counseling, long-term
skilled care and Medicare managed care services.
In addition, the campus is home to Georgia
Baptist’s second Baptist Life Flight areomedical
emergency helicopter that serves north Georgia. Visitors to Lake Lanier
also draw heavily on Baptist Life Flight and Baptist Medical Center for
emergency medical service and treatment of
boating and water sports injuries.
In addition to the sophisticated technology,
Baptist Medical Center continues to demonstrate
the love of Jesus Christ through compassionate care. Dr. Marcus Mashburn,
Jr., and his father, Marcus, Sr. and brother, Jim, established this
precedent when they opened the first hospital in Forsyth County. All three
men were physicians who transformed a hotel in downtown Cumming into the
Mary Alice Hospital. Today, their vision has become Baptist Medical
Center, the newest and most technologically advanced hospital in the state
of Georgia. |
