"He who says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked"
(John 2:6)

Additional renovations were made to Georgia Baptist Meriwether’s nursing home, which offers a family centered approach to caring for its residents. "We want our residents to live well and have a fulfilled life while they’re here," said Lynn Jackson, hospital administrator. "There are many activities and a place for family to come and visit."

In keeping with its ministry to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ through a health care ministry, Georgia Baptist Meriwether not only provides for care of the body, but also care of the soul. Volunteer chaplains are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to bring prayer and spiritual enrichment to patients and nursing home residents.

Georgia Baptist Meriwether’s good neighbor involvement also helped improve the quality of life for area residents. The hospital is a member of the Meriwether County Interagency Council/Family Connection, which fosters collaboration between community groups and helps prevent duplication of services. As a member of the council, the hospital participates in many joint projects and grant requests to bring useful resources into the community. One typical program, in partnership with the March of Dimes, provides a perinatal van to transport pregnant women and mothers with newborn infants. Another is the hospital’s alliance with the county school system to provide a school nurse, healthcare education and services to children in the community. Playground equipment was provided by the hospital to encourage safe play environments. "Our hospital is not just a hospital," said Jackson. "It’s part of the community."

Georgia Baptist Meriwether also provides a friendly, welcoming atmosphere by offering facility tours that are appropriate for school-age children and by participating in health fairs and career programs. As part of a mentor program, many students are given the opportunity to spend a day at the hospital to gain exposure to medical careers.

To encourage community awareness and involvement, Georgia Baptist Meriwether actively contributes to Leadership Meriwether, which is a leadership development program sponsored by Fanning Leadership Institute at the University of Georgia. Hospital and nursing home employees attend program classes and then act as teachers for others. One class is held at the hospital each year.

Whether the hospital is providing nurses for the school system or contributing to community leadership, the good neighbors at Georgia Baptist Meriwether are there to lend a hand. "That’s what sets us apart from large urban hospitals," said Jackson. "It’s our strong link to the community and a desire to make a difference in the lives of those we serve."
